Exploring Possibilities to Stay Inspired

This t-shirt design is more than fashion. It’s an expression of optimism, resilience, and my ability to turn a good idea into something more.

As I navigate the ups and downs of job search, marketing or content creation projects, and temp work I’ve thought about what keeps me going. How do I stay inspired as I work towards the goal of finding a new team where I will thrive for the long term? One answer is allowing time to draw and create things like this and acting on my ideas. There’s more to the story, so read on to find out what led to this design.

In January, chose “possibility” as my personal word-of-the-year because I needed an infusion of hope and an intention for 2024. I discovered my word through a virtual workshop with Rukmini Poddar, hosted by Creative Mornings Virtual FieldTrips. Beyond the workshop, I resolved to periodically revisit and bring mindfulness about what the word meant to me when I chose it and how that meaning might evolve through the seasons.

Through my exploration, I’ve homed in on how my inner thought process relates to this word. Since I am an artist and a visual learner, I enjoy expressing myself through drawings, design, and collage. (I also happen to love word play and word games but that’s another story.) The more I thought about it the more I realized how dynamic this word can be and that it can mean different things at different times. With this concept, the visuals began to take shape!

I’ve illustrated the meanings of “possibility” that resonate with the way I think.

The green seedling version of the word represents the roots of ideas that start small and are just beginning to grow, or the roots that established concepts grew from.

Tangible options in the present inspired the thick, mustard-yellow drawing, and “possibility” drawn in dotted lines illustrates the future choices and situations that we are as yet unaware of. (Is it just me or is this starting to sound like a tarot card reading?)

I’m proud that my word is staying strong, I followed through on my idea, then put it on a t-shirt and shared the thoughts behind it. I hope that my story helps you consider ways to be creative with your free time and hold on to inspiration; more possibilities are always ahead.

If you want to buy the t-shirt, it’s available in my Threadless shop.
